CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – State Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, congratulates three Champaign-based small businesses on being selected for the third slate of Innovation Voucher Program funding, which will allow the businesses to expand their research capabilities.
“Our community houses so many innovative minds and operations, from the University of Illinois’ Research Park to around Champaign and Urbana in general,” said Ammons. “Thanks to legislation passed in 2021, millions of dollars have been distributed to small research-based businesses across the state and here in Champaign-Urbana.”
The following businesses were awarded nearly $75k individually:
- Solar Mantel for manufacturing projects
- Vastimmune Biologics for healthcare projects
- TearDx LLC for healthcare projects
“Not only will three Champaign-based businesses be able to grow with this funding, the University of Illinois is partnering with six different organizations on their projects,” said Ammons. “We have so much to be proud of in our community, but it’s clear that innovation is a building block of Champaign and Urbana.”
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is the only university partner working in food tech, along with working on healthcare and manufacturing projects, in Peoria, Chicago, and Rantoul.
This is the third round of Innovation Voucher Program funding, which awarded $2.6 million this cycle based on a competitive application process.
