CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. – Highlighting a critical local service for foster children and families, state Rep. Suzanne Ness, D-Carpentersville, toured Kids in Need of McHenry County (KIN) Tuesday to learn more about its services and success in connecting vulnerable community members to resources they need most.
“Organizations like Kids in Need truly define what community means and how one small mission can be transformative for an entire community,” said Ness. “An idea started by foster mothers almost ten years ago, KIN has become a life-changing space for McHenry County children and the families who care for them.”
KIN of McHenry County offers direct support to families in need, while also being a haven for foster children through its Visitation Home—a fully functional space for foster children to visit with their biological families in a safe, friendly environment. Through its Second Bridge program, KIN provides necessities to foster children including school supplies, winter apparel and birthday gifts, through a store for vulnerable families and children to access for free.
Ness, who chairs the House Adoption and Child Welfare Committee, is a staunch advocate for bridging the needs of foster children and ensuring they receive support from birth throughout their adolescence. Following the tour, Ness’ team donated 100 diapers to support KIN’s mission.
“Removing children from their homes is a traumatic experience, even when it is for their safety. KIN is laying the groundwork for these kids’ success, so that while in care, they have the resources they need to thrive,” said Ness. “I look forward to KIN’s continued success in making a mark in our community.”
