GURNEE, Ill. — State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s decision to freeze $10 billion in federal funding for social services and childcare programs in five democratic-led states, including Illinois:
“This federal administration seems set on harming the very people they claim to protect the most: our children and families. The very livelihoods of parents and children will be unjustly affected by these targeted funding cuts. Accessible social services and childcare programs are what allow parents and guardians to go to work so they can put food on the table and pay their bills. These funding freezes are just nonsensical.”
“We cannot and will not allow the Trump administration’s political games to disproportionately undermine the childcare systems we have worked so hard to build. As chair of the Child Care Accessibility and Early Childhood Education Committee, I remain devoted to advocating for the children and families in my community and across Illinois, especially as we approach this year’s legislative session.”
Illinois, along with the four other targeted states, secured a temporary restraining order to block the Trump administration’s funding freeze.
