OTTAWA, Ill. — State Rep. Amy “Murri” Briel, D-Ottawa, is collaborating with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Illinois to participate in a Facebook Live reading for children and parents on Friday, Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

“Education is the key to our children’s futures, and the cornerstone of education is reading,” Briel said. “When reading is fun for kids, they enjoy learning. So that’s what we want to do, make learning and reading fun. This event will be super accessible to all, whether families want to listen to the reading on Facebook Live or visit our website for a later recording of the event.”

Briel will be reading “The Little Engine that Could.” Schools, day cares, and families are encouraged to join the Facebook Live event to listen. The recording will also be available after the event for one month on Briel’s website at https://staterepbriel.com/.

To further support learning environments in and around her communities, Briel’s office additionally plans to donate books to local Head Start programs.

“I’m excited to read a fun book that has an empowering message for children,” Briel said. “I can’t wait to meet local parents and kids who join this fun opportunity to sit down as a community and read a book we’re all familiar with—whether you’re seven years old or 70—‘The Little Engine That Could’ is nostalgic for all.”
