ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, D-Arlington Heights, is holding a “Create-A-Bill” contest to hear ideas from high school students in the community on legislation she can pursue in the coming year.
“Effective lawmakers know the priorities of people in their communities,” Canty said. “It is really important to me to make sure that our young people know that their voices matter, even if they are not yet eligible to vote. I am excited to hear their ideas on how to build a stronger future for Illinois.”
Bill ideas can be sent by mail to 12 E. Northwest Hwy, in Arlington Heights, zip code 60004, by email to info@repmbc.com or by Google form at tinyurl.com/Canty25CreateABill. Submissions will be accepted until Dec. 19.
All submissions must contain the following: student’s name; student’s grade level; student’s address; parent’s name and contact information; indication of parental consent; description of the issue being addressed; and a description of student’s recommendation for new policy. The author of the winning submission will have the opportunity to join Rep. Canty as her ‘Page for a Day’ in Springfield.
