DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. — State Rep. Anne Stava, D-Downers Grove, issued congratulations in a statement after the Village of Downers Grove won a Silver Circle Award in the 2025 3CMA Savvy Awards competition for a fire safety education video entitled “Learn Not to Burn,” which was produced by the Village’s Communications Department and is used monthly in all 3rd grade classrooms in the community.

“Fire safety, particularly for kids, is one of the most important safety topics to learn—house fires are one of the most dangerous hazards families face, and also among the easiest to prevent with simple safety measures,” Stava said. “Excellence in teaching fire safety to kids is commendable and promises to save lives and prevent tragedies.”

Stava, a former commissioner on the Naperville Board of Police and Fire, has made public safety and child welfare a major priority throughout her legislative career. The Village’s award-winning video was made in partnership with the Downers Grove Fire Department and incorporates firefighter testimonials, an interview with a firefighter and his family who found a fire in their own home, and on-screen demonstrations of what kids should do in the event of a house fire.

The Savvy Awards have recognized excellence in government communication for more than 30 years. There were over 1,100 entries across 37 categories in 2025.
