CICERO, Ill. – Money allocated from last year’s state budget fought for by state Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, is returning to the district, helping rehabilitate the Cicero Avenue bridge over the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal.
“This is a critical artery for the City of Chicago and our Cicero community, linking us to the rest of the state and beyond,” Hernandez said. “Ensuring our tax dollars maintain and repair our vital infrastructure was paramount to our budget negotiations, and we did just that. These dollars go to show that Springfield can balance both fiscally-conscious policies that save taxpayers money while funding the services we depend on and spurring job growth.”
Hernandez helped pass a balanced, fiscally responsible state budget in 2024 that dedicated more than $400 million to improve local roads and critical infrastructure, many of which were located in disadvantaged communities. The Cicero Avenue Bridge rehabilitation over the Sanitary and Ship Canal was awarded more than $9 million to complete needed repairs.
This investment is funded through the Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan, which dedicates $33 billion dollars over six years to rail, road, aeronautical and other infrastructure projects across the state.
