ROCKFORD, Ill. – State Rep. Dave Vella, D-Rockford, is applauding Stellantis’ $613 million investment to reopen its Belvidere plant, restoring more than 3,300 jobs in Illinois.
“This opportunity for families and workers is a major win for northern Illinois,” said Vella. “With the closing of the Belvidere plant, many livelihoods were put on hold. Today, we’re seeing what happens
when state and local leaders fight to bring good jobs back home.” Since the plant idled in 2023, Vella has worked closely with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and labor partners, such as the United Auto Workers(UAW), to help secure the plant’s reopening. This deal is a major step forward for the Rockford region’s economy and the future of manufacturing in Illinois.
“This investment shows that Belvidere is not only back, but stronger than ever,” Vella continued. “I’m proud of the teamwork that made this possible. We’re building more than cars here, we’re rebuilding confidence, stability, and opportunity for families.”
