Hoffman-Sponsored Economic Reforms Lifting Up Middle-Class and Small Businesses Pass House

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In his continued effort to empower middle-class families and level the playing field for local employers, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, helped pass reforms that crack down on corporations that ship jobs out of state, reduce fees on small businesses, and lower taxes for working families.

“Our economy is driven by hard-working, middle-class families and small and medium-sized businesses that employ people locally—not billionaire CEOs and huge, multi-national corporations,” Hoffman said. “A corporate agenda that rewards companies shipping our jobs overseas and creates tax-loopholes that huge corporations take advantage of is not the right path for Illinois.”

Hoffman’s House Bill 160 is a comprehensive package of economic reforms that includes ideas from both sides of the aisle. His legislation reduces the fees to open small businesses, expands tax credits for working families, and encourages job growth by creating tax incentives for companies who hire new workers. Hoffman’s measure also cracks down on corporations who ship jobs out of state by forcing outsourcers to pay back every dime they’ve received from Illinois taxpayers.

“We need to focus on expanding tax-breaks for middle-class families and leveling the playing field for local, community businesses, Hoffman said. “These reforms, that include proposals from both sides of the aisle, will help incentivize economic growth and spur job creation statewide.”
