Rep. Rashid on Trump’s Attack on Collective Bargaining & Workers’ Rights

BERWYN, Ill – Rep. Abelnasser Rashid (D-Bridgeview) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s executive order attempting to eliminate collective bargaining for hundreds of thousands of federal workers:

“Donald Trump’s union-busting executive order is a direct attack on workers, the middle class, and the fundamental freedom to organize. Trump and Republicans are doing everything they can to cripple the middle class and give sweetheart tax cuts to robber baron billionaires like Elon Musk.

“Here in Illinois, I’ll continue to fight back against blatant attacks on workers and the middle class. In the General Assembly, we’re expanding workers’ rights and tackling cost-of-living across the board for Illinois residents. Illinois has already adopted a historic workers’ rights amendment to our constitution which protects the right to collectively bargain. I have also introduced legislation, HB 2650, to support workers on strike—because leveraging worker power is one of the most effective mechanisms to rein in unchecked corporate and billionaire greed.

“American workers will not be silenced by this administration.”
