Statement from Representative Abdelnasser Rashid on Donald Trump Using Military & National Guard Against Immigration Protestors

“Donald Trump’s unconstitutional immigration policy has brought fear to communities across our nation, including here in Illinois. ICE is functioning as a militant arm of an administration hellbent on terrorizing our immigrant neighbors.

“Trump and Republicans have repeatedly failed in their promise to fix our broken immigration system. Ripping parents away from their children and throwing innocent people into foreign gulags is not reform. It’s fascism — plain and simple.

“Mass deportation raids, unconstitutional violations of due process, and using the National Guard and US Marines to suppress peaceful protests and criminalize immigrant families are legally indefensible and morally bankrupt. These policies echo the darkest chapters in our nation’s history when fear and division were weaponized to suppress the hopes and dreams of people simply working towards a better life.
