ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, released the following statement reflecting on the first day of the federal government shutdown:

“Today is day one of the federal government shutdown, and while this creates uncertainty and concern for so many families, what remains certain is our commitment to the people we serve. A shutdown has real, irreversible impacts on working families, seniors, students and small businesses. But, here in Illinois, we must stay focused on protecting those who will feel this burden the most. As your state Representative, I will continue to fight for stability, access to essential services and relief for everyday people around our community. In times like these, our responsibility is to put people first. While dysfunction and irresponsibility continues in Washington, I will continue to work here at home to ensure our communities are protected, our values are upheld and that no one is left behind.”
