VENICE, Ill. – Emphasizing the positive impact it will have on the community and local families for years to come, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, joined students, teachers and local officials to celebrate the completion of a new elementary school in Venice.
“This is an outstanding school building that will provide our children a modern educational experience and help to create better opportunities for their future,” Hoffman said. “It’s not just going to be a place of learning, it’s going to be a place for memories, friendship and joy for these students and teachers for years to come. Today is a great day for Venice.”
Hoffman worked with area officials to help secure $26 million in state funding to support the project after the previous elementary school building was condemned in 2020 due to safety concerns. Since then, students and teachers have had to use virtual learning and a temporary location in Granite City. The new building will serve pre-kindergarten through 8th grade and will start welcoming students for class on Aug. 13.
