CHICAGO – In response to the passage of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act and its ugly repercussions, state Rep. Lisa Davis, D-Chicago, issued the following statement:
“Recently, we saw Congressional Republicans and Donald Trump betray the American people by passing and signing into law his ill-conceived plan to cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy and corporations, while raising the cost of everything – from health care to child care, and adding trillions to the national debt.
This is not the fiscal restraint and government efficiency that Trump espoused on the campaign trail, but it is right on cue for an unhinged man with dictatorial aspirations and a severe deficit in his understanding of what makes America great.
Instead of providing relief and easing the strain of inflation on working families, Trump’s big bad bill will threaten the continued operation of our hospitals, strip families of food assistance that ensures children are fed, and make college unaffordable by forcing students to rely on private loans instead of federal assistance.
In addition to that, Trump’s scuttling of clean energy projects will raise the cost of electricity for families and damage our health by increasing the pollution in our skies. Trump’s so-called big beautiful bill isn’t just wrong for Illinois, it’s wrong for America.”
