SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – For the second year in a row, Illinois has seen over $650 million in film expenditures in the state, noting the continued growth of the television and film industry in Illinois due
to the fiscally and socially responsible budgets delivered by state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth.

“Since its implementation, the Film Production Tax Credit has brought thousands of jobs and billions in film production expenditures to Illinois, greatly contributing to our state’s economy and workforce,” said Gordon-Booth. ““The Film Production Tax Credit has proved that not only has Illinois’ film industry bounced back from the 2023 strikes that halted production, it has flourished.”

State budgets backed by Gordon-Booth have extended and strengthened the Film Production Tax Credit. The credit, which Gordon-Booth helped extend through 2032, brought $653 million in film
production expenditures and $351 million in estimated wages to Illinois in 2024. It is estimated that, including extras, there were over 18,000 estimated hires in the industry in 2024 alone.

To increase diversity in Illinois’ film industry, the state launched the Film and TV Workforce Training Program. Since the introduction of this program, over 200 individuals per year have been trained and hired from groups that are historically underrepresented.

“Not only has Illinois positioned itself as an increasingly favorable state for the television and film industry, the state has also invested in the continued diversity of the industry,” Gordon-Booth said.
“This record-breaking milestone isn’t just about the money; it’s also about Illinois’ investment in the people who keep this industry running and thriving in our state.”
