OAK PARK, ILL. – State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly, D-Chicago, released the following statement after a Chicago firefighter died from his injuries after fighting a fire in the city’s Austin neighborhood Wednesday morning:
“My deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends, and fellow firefighters of beloved Chicago Firefighter, Captain David Meyer. A member of the Fire Department since 1996, he put his life on the line to protect our community for almost 30 years. This serves as a reminder to all of us that our firefighter’s courage and willingness to run to danger, while we run away is a testament to their selflessness and commitment to saving lives. Words will never be able to express the amount of gratitude I have for every firefighter across our State who sacrifices their lives for us.”
