SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, D-Arlington Heights, continuing her work cutting costs for working families, was named to a legislative working group dedicated to finding new reforms for Illinois’ property tax system.
“Finding new approaches to cutting property taxes and relieve financial burdens on Illinois homeowners is essential to building a stronger future for our communities,” Canty said. “This working group will be hearing from a diverse range of stakeholders and policy experts to get all perspectives so that we can craft legislation that works for all Illinoisans.”
The working group will meet regularly with stakeholders from across the ideological spectrum to explore potential legislative approaches to lowering property tax burdens on Illinoisans. State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth is the chair, and other members are Reps. Anthony DeLuca, Marti Deuter, Daniel Didech, Norma Hernandez, Tracy Katz Muhl, Suzanne Ness, Abdelnasser Rashid, Nabeela Syed and Curtis Tarver II.
“The Property Tax Working Group is one piece of a larger effort to help more Illinois families make ends meet,” Canty said. “Cutting prices on groceries, prescription drugs, childcare and other vital needs are also important steps which go hand-in-hand with lowering property taxes.”
