SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Following the State of the State and Budget Address delivered Wednesday by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, state Rep. Harry Benton, D-Plainfield, is delivering his own message of optimism and hope to working families.

“This budget address is the first step in a long process of line-by-line analysis and focused policymaking on behalf of working families,” Benton said. “Of course, this is shaping up to be a year full of tough decisions, especially given the challenges posed by the uncertain situation in Washington, D.C. But I didn’t sign up to represent our community only in the easy times, and I won’t stop working to advance smart policies that reflect our values and deliver for everyone.”

Benton, a union ironworker and strong advocate for workers and families, has made a name for himself in the last two years by passing legislation focused on lifting up seniors, veterans and working families. The policies he helped pass include the Healthcare Protections Act, the Child Tax Credit and the new law which is cracking down on hidden junk fees.

All state legislation, including Benton’s, is available for public review at www.ilga.gov.

“The biggest question this year is going to be how we can keep Illinois moving ahead in a better direction while extremists in Washington seem dead-set on pulling us backward,” Benton said. “Those conversations can begin today, with the budget address, and from there, we get to work on extending our streak of smart, responsible budgets.”
