SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – As a member of several key House committees this legislative session, state Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, will advance her policy priorities of expanding equity-driven economic opportunity, including cutting costs, spurring job growth in underserved communities, uplifting small businesses, delivering on pension promises, and increasing affordable access to quality higher education.

“These committee assignments give me a front-row opportunity to continue the fight for equity-driven solutions that directly impact the lives of the people I represent,” said Ammons. “Committee members and I will craft and oversee multitudes of policy solutions that have the potential to impact every Illinoisan positively across some of our state’s most pressing issues. I’m committed to building a fairer, more inclusive Illinois for everyone, and I look forward to conversations that spark real, tangible change.”

As Chair of the Energy & Environment Committee, Ammons will lead policy discussions that address environmental justice, climate resilience, and utility affordability. Her repetitive efforts to push for utility bill assistance for struggling families will be amplified in this new role as she aims to bring more relief to residents facing rising energy costs while holding corporations accountable.

Similarly, Ammons will continue fighting for a smart government that values accountability and transparency. Her participation in both the Ethics & Election and Personnel & Pensions Committees will ensure the security of public services — including protecting the integrity of Illinois elections and safeguarding retirement benefits.

Building on her track record of advocating for equity at every level of education, her position on the Higher Education and Appropriations – Higher Education Committee will allow Ammons to prioritize an equity-based funding model for public universities and community colleges, ensuring that students from all backgrounds — especially in underserved communities — have access to high-quality, affordable education.

Ammons will also continue her mission to uplift small businesses, particularly those owned by women and minorities, on the Economic Opportunity & Equity Committee. This role will allow her to push for programs that provide resources, grants, and more opportunities for entrepreneurs, fostering growth in historically underinvested neighborhoods and supporting job creation. Additionally, her seat on the Museums, Arts & Culture Committee aligns with her belief in preserving the cultural heritage of Illinois while advocating for equitable access to arts and history programs that reflect the state’s diversity.

“Our families want stability and reassurance that Illinois can provide them the services and relief they need to thrive and build stable futures in this state. These committee assignments give me the platform to make sure that’s possible,” said Ammons. “As we enter a new session, I encourage Champaign-Urbana residents to join my Legislative Panels. I’m prepared to stick up for the unheard needs of my neighborhoods and surrounding communities until every resident of Illinois has the tools they need to provide for themselves and their family comfortably.”
