BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — State Rep. Sharon Chung, D-Bloomington, is continuing her work to further protect and uplift the agricultural industry, fix the healthcare licensing process, and will work to expand access to higher education in this legislative session.
“As a strong advocate for Central Illinois and the working families that our community depends on, I look forward to serving on numerous committees and working with my colleagues to pass beneficial and sensible legislation,” said Chung. “Working on these committees will provide me with more opportunities to address the issues facing the people I represent and all Illinoisans.”
During this legislative session, Chung will serve as Vice Chair of the Higher Education Committee and as a member of the Appropriations – Higher Education Committee. As a member of these two committees, Chung will work to expand access to higher education by making it more affordable for Illinoisians.
Coupled with her membership on the Economic Opportunities & Equity Committee, Chung’s membership on the Agriculture and Conservation Committee will enable her to continue her fight to protect small, family-run farms throughout Illinois by fighting for a new law that will raise the threshold for inheritance taxes and allow for extended family members to take over this land.
Continuing her role as a member of the Healthcare Licenses Committee, Chung will work to enact legislation that eliminates unnecessary delays and puts additional, qualified, healthcare professionals in our hospitals and other healthcare facilities across the state in a timely manner.
Chung is also a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee and will help to provide necessary resources for our veterans, ensuring we take care of our veterans after their service for our country has concluded.
“I am excited to serve on all of these committees, but I am particularly excited to bring my experience as a professional violist and violinist to the Museums, Arts, and Culture Committee,” Chung said. “Museums and the arts bring so much to our community, and it is important that we encourage the pursuit of the arts and culture for the future. I look forward to representing my community not only in the House, but also on these committees, giving the people of Central Illinois a louder voice in Springfield.”
