SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Reflecting his years of experience and ability to deliver agreements in difficult negotiations, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, will continue to serve as an Assistant Majority Leader in the 104th General Assembly.
“I’m honored to have the faith of my caucus and Speaker Welch to continue this leadership role,” Hoffman said. “Serving in this position better enables me to share the voice of Metro East residents, ensuring our community always has a seat at the table.”
In recent years, Hoffman has played a critical role in difficult negotiations, securing agreements on energy, labor issues, infrastructure and more. Most recently, Hoffman was the lead negotiator in establishing a regulatory framework for carbon capture and sequestration – enabling Illinois to take advantage of an emerging, multi-billion-dollar industry that will create and support jobs.
With the start of a new General Assembly, Hoffman is now the most senior member of the House chamber, having served since 1991 with two small interruptions.
“I’ve been fortunate to have this tremendous opportunity to serve, and I’m grateful for all of the valuable relationships I have made with residents and local officials on this journey,” Hoffman said. “There’s more work ahead of us, and I’m excited to begin a new term looking to further support and uplift working families across our state.
“I also want to congratulate state Rep. Katie Stuart on her first appointment as Assistant Majority Leader and Floor Whip,” Hoffman said. “It’s well deserved, and she’s going to continue to be an asset for our region and our caucus.”
