NAPERVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, will bring decades of experience in the retirement and investment management industry to negotiations and legislation that will determine the state’s fiscal outlook and retirement systems as chair of the House Personnel & Pensions Committee.
“We’ve seen the challenges created when former governors and legislators cut corners and substituted sound bite solutions for sound, long-term financial planning. That’s why now more than ever, we need a smart, sustainable approach that acknowledges the financial realities facing our state, respects the promises made to workers, and makes smart decisions for our future,” Yang Rohr said. “I look forward to adding my professional experience to this important conversation, making the voices of local residents heard loud and clear, and keeping our state moving forward financially.”
Yang Rohr will also serve as chair for the House Asian American Legislative Caucus in the 104th General Assembly. This growing group of lawmakers with Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage work together to advocate for the needs of Illinois’ AAPI communities. The caucus has prioritized new measures to teach students about the contributions Asian American immigrants have made to Illinois communities, remove language barriers in civic participation, and improve access to culturally competent medical care.
“As the representative of a diverse and unique community that is also home to many first- and second-generation Asian American and Pacific Island families, I’m honored to be entrusted by my colleagues to lead a group that strives to build community and compassion throughout Illinois,” Yang Rohr said. “People in our community sent me to Springfield to build the strongest Illinois for everyone, and these leadership positions will help me carry that message even further.”
