EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. —State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, will enter House leadership as an Assistant Majority Leader and Floor Whip during the coming legislative session, strengthening her efforts to advocate for Metro East schools and make state government more efficient and accountable.
“It is an honor to be appointed as an Assistant Majority Leader and Floor Whip for the new legislative session, allowing me to make our commonsense voices heard in some of the most important discussions in our state,” said Stuart. “I have dedicated my time in Springfield to giving the people of my district a voice and collaborating with my colleagues to address the issues people in my district and all across Illinois face. I’m going to continue to work to strengthen our schools, make college education more affordable, and demand efficient and compassionate state services.”
The positions of Assistant Majority Leader and Floor Whip not only come with new responsibilities for Stuart, they also empower Stuart to closely work with the leaders of the House, keeping the issues Metro East families face top of mind throughout session. Stuart has held multiple leadership positions throughout her time in the Illinois House of Representatives, including chairperson of the Higher Education Committee and Vice-Chairperson of the Ethics & Elections Committee.
“As an Assistant Majority Leader, I will have the privilege of assisting Speaker Welch in proposing, discussing, and working to pass legislation that will benefit Illinoisans,” said Stuart. “I will continue to be a strong voice for the Metro East and for all levels of education, from pre-K to post-secondary education, as I help shape the legislative agenda for the spring session.”
“As Floor Whip, I will be working to gather votes for proposed legislation, making sure everyone’s voice is heard here in Springfield,” said Stuart. “I am ready to take on more leadership positions in the General Assembly, providing input not only as a former educator, but as the advocate for the people in
my district in Springfield.”
