CHICAGO, IL – In response to the President-Elect Trump’s alarming threats to declare a national emergency and use military resources for mass deportations, state Rep. Lilian Jiménez,
D-Chicago, reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and well- being of Chicago communities, especially those vulnerable and targeted.
“The Trump appointees and their agendas would endanger immigrants, working families and communities of color,” Jiménez said. “Project 2025’ and its focus on mass deportations threaten to not only destroy families but also erode the trust and unity we’ve spent decades building within and among our communities. As the President-Elect takes office and seeks to fulfill his campaign promises, we must remain vigilant and resist any actions that undermine respect, inclusivity, and safety.”
Over the weekend, Jimenez co-hosted a forum with over 500 community advocates from across the Chicago area to discuss strategies for protecting vulnerable groups, inform them on their rights and create action plans for confronting the incoming Trump Administration on immigration, environmental, housing, education and economic policies.
“No matter what changes we may see on the federal level, we will continue to work tirelessly, to organize, and to promote policies that allow every resident to feel secure, valued, and heard,” Jiménez said. “We are committed to standing with our communities today and always. We cannot count on the federal government to keep us safe. Now and again, we must do that ourselves.”
Rep. Jiménez’s proven record includes raising fines for labor violations, launching Illinois’ first U-visa program at the Department of Labor, leading New Americans initiatives, and coordinating the resettlement of over 20,000 Ukrainian and Afghan refugees.
Jiménez and her office are ready and available to the community should they have any questions or concerns about resources, information and more. To contact Jiménez’s constituent office, email info@replilianjimenez.com, call 773-337-9995 or visit at 2511 W. Division St.
