ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, was joined by state Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, D-Shorewood, at her hosted the first annual 19 Under 19: Girls Leadership Summit at Rasmussen College in Romeoville.
Students from area schools gathered to enjoy a panel discussion touching on important issues impacting young women today, including developing leadership skills, creating a supportive network, exploring advanced degree options and successfully navigating social and professional situations.
“This event was very special,” said Manley. “Young women today face many challenges and it is so important to support them as they begin setting for their future. I look forward to presenting this event annually to not only continue discussing these issues, but to provide an ongoing network of successful women to support and give professional advice to the young women in our community.”
Panelists included Bria Scudder, Legislative Liaison for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, Lorraine Guerrero Neumayer, Licensed Social Worker with the Will County State’s Attorney Special Courts, and Tiffany Elking, Vice President of Government Navigation Group.
“It is so important that women constantly focus on helping the next generation of girls to navigate the waters of equality, feminism and leadership,” said panelist Tiffany Elking. “I was very inspired by these young women and honored to participate in Rep. Manley’s first annual Girls Leadership Summit.”
