DECATUR, Ill. – Ahead of this month’s Halloween gatherings and trick-or-treating, state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is reminding everyone who plans to celebrate Halloween of tips to stay safe during this year’s spooky season.
“Halloween is a fun day to dress up, have fun and most importantly enjoy good snacks with the people you love,” said Scherer. “Some basic safety considerations can help keep the evening fun.”
This Halloween, Scherer is encouraging parents, guardians and others who may take little ones trick-or-treating to employ some tips on how to have a safe but spooky Halloween. Halloween candy should not be eaten until it has been inspected at home. Eating while door knocking could cause someone to accidentally consume something that triggers an allergic reaction. Adults should also bring a flashlight and be sure to monitor their little ones’ clothing in case they trip or fall. Additionally, parents and guardians should use the Illinois State Police’s sex offender register list at www.isp.gov.
