CHICAGO – To help ensure local residents affected by this summer’s extreme weather and tornadoes in July, state Rep. Yolonda Morris, D-Chicago, is highlighting the recent opening of a temporary Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) field office on the city’s West Side.

“So many people’s lives were upended during this summer’s storms – property was destroyed, food spoiled and many were briefly isolated,” said Morris. “Many in our community are still reeling from the devastation, and FEMA is finally bringing the help that so many desperately need.”

Earlier this week, FEMA announced the opening of a temporary field office in the Chicago Lawn Branch Chicago Public Library, located at 6120 S. Kedzie Avenue. The office will assist residents with applying for disaster relief assistance from the federal government. Eligible applicants can receive up to $42,500 in disaster relief and housing assistance. The office is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, from noon until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 1.p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Those affected by this summer’s storms have until November 19th to apply for assistance. Residents can also apply for assistance or find more information by visiting www.disasterassistance.gov or calling FEMA’s help line at (1)800-621-3362.
