DECATUR, Ill. – In advance of its Oct. 18 application deadline, state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is asking residents to nominate exceptional school board members to receive the prestigious Thomas Lay Burroughs Award from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
“As an educator, our school board members were absolutely essential to the functioning of our local school system,” said Scherer. “Board members are the nexus between our schools and the community we serve, and the excellent ones deserve to be highlighted.”
Scherer is asking local community members to nominate a school board member to receive the Thomas Lay Burroughs Award for an exceptional school board member. Potential recipients should demonstrate excellent one of the following categories: closing an achievement gap, delivering services to underserved students and leading during a crisis.
