ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, D-Arlington Heights, will be holding a town hall to connect with the community about issues surrounding prescription drug affordability on Thursday, October 3, 6 p.m. to 7:30 pm., at the Palatine Library District at 700 N. North Court in Palatine. She will be joined by state Rep. Nabeela Syed and Dr. Khalid Hussain.

“Stories of prescription rationing and avoidable emergency room visits brought on by a lack of medication have repeatedly made it clear: prescription drugs are wildly overpriced. By prioritizing profits over people, the prescription drug industry takes advantage of its monopoly on vital products to tragically price gouge millions of patients, and it has to stop, Canty said. “What this industry is doing constitutes a chronic threat to public health, and while I stand for this community in Springfield, cutting prescription drug costs will be a priority.”

The goal of the town hall is to spark a conversation in the local communities about the affordability of prescription drugs and possible approaches to overcoming this challenge. Canty will be joined by state Rep. Nabeela Syed, another major advocate for reform on this issue. Dr. Khalid Hussain, an expert on prescription drug affordability, will also be there to answer questions. To RSVP, attendees can visit citizenaction-il.org/palatinetownhall. For more information, Canty can be reached at 224-248-8187.
