Yang Rohr Shows Support for Community Heroes at 3rd Annual ‘Heroes & Helicopters Community Showcase’

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Janet Yang Rohr and state Sen. Laura Ellman, D-Naperville, are inviting local parents and children to learn more about how police, firefighters and many more serve and keep our community safe at their third annual “Heroes & Helicopters Community Showcase.” The event will feature interactive, family-friendly demonstrations of emergency responder equipment, including two medical helicopter landings. Yang Rohr and Ellman will host over two dozen local organizations on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Frontier Sports Complex at 3380 Cedar Glade Rd. in Naperville.

“While heroes wear capes in the movies, the heroes in our communities work at the local police station, drive a firetruck and connect in many ways to the young and young-at-heart,” Yang Rohr
said. “I work to make sure these heroes have our support at the legislative level, and my advocacy doesn’t end there. At Saturday’s event, families will learn more from these and other local heroes about what they do and how they help create a better, stronger community. I hope everyone takes advantage of this opportunity and spends the day with us.”

Yang Rohr will welcome a number of community partners and service providers, including the Will County Health Department, Naperville Park District, NAMI DuPage and many more.

During the most recent budget talks, Yang Rohr fought for critical funding for local police departments to continue their illegal firearm operations, including $1.5 million to crack down on individuals in possession of an illegal firearm. The Naperville Police Department will receive $36,689 in funding to support these efforts. She also fought for the FY 25 budget to include $148 million for ongoing Reimagine Public Safety initiatives that support community-based organizations, equip local agencies with the tools they need, and uplift victims and their families.
