Manley Hosts Free Community Shred Day to Help Residents Prevent Identity Theft

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, provided local residents with a free opportunity to clear up clutter and prevent identity theft at a shred day event last week, hosted in partnership with state Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar.

“Unfortunately, identity theft is a real threat, and although we’ve been warned to beware, we should continually spread the word and ensure our community members know how to discard sensitive documents safely. We don’t want valuable information to end up in the wrong hands,” said Manley.

“Teaming up with Rep. Avelar drives home the urgency of this issue and the importance of proper document disposal. By offering this secure, accessible shredding service, we take proactive, preventive measures to protect residents from potential financial harm.”

Residents who were unable to attend this shred day will have an additional opportunity on May 18 to attend Manley’s Shred Day in Romeoville. For more information, contact the Village of Romeoville or Rep. Manley’s district office at (815) 725-2741, which is available by call or text.

The recent shred day event is just one way that Manley is working to expand services in her district. Last year, Manley passed legislation creating the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Pilot Program, which provides Will County grandparents with a variety of resources to help them raise their grandchildren. She is also hosting a year-round donation drive for luggage for foster children, providing them with gently used or new luggage to help store their belongings.
