PEORIA, Ill. – Thanks to state support backed by state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, the Peoria region will soon see new electric vehicle charging stations installed around the community.
“This is another step forward as part of Illinois’ investment in electric vehicle infrastructure, preparing us to meet the current and future demands of travelers,” Gordon-Booth said. “Additional charging stations are not just a convenience, but a necessity as more electric vehicles begin to take the road.”
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency announced Wednesday over $25 million in awarded grants to install new Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) ports at 141 locations across the state. The funding was made possible from the Gordon-Booth-supported Rebuild Illinois capital plan, as well as the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA).
OSF Healthcare System will receive $320,000 for two charging stations, while additional chargers will be set up by Sustainable Energies Corporation and Universal EV LLC in commercial areas.
