Hoffman Highlights MAP Grant Use in Metro East, Encourages Further Investment in Higher Education

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is highlighting more than $12.7 million claimed by Metro East residents last year through Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grants.

“These numbers are reflective of the increased commitment we’ve put toward MAP Grants in recent state budgets,” Hoffman said. “Not only do they make college more affordable, sometimes they can be the difference maker for whether or not someone pursues a degree.”

According to data from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC), in fiscal year 2023 more than $12.7 million in MAP grants were utilized by residents in Metro East state representative districts (111, 112, 113 and 114) during the 2022-23 school year, impacting 3,897 students. In Hoffman’s 113th District specifically, more than $3.4 million was used by 1,159 students pursuing higher education.

With Hoffman’s support, Illinois has increased its commitment to MAP Grant funding by approximately $222 million since Fiscal Year 2022.

“From historic investments in early childhood education to increased support for college grants, we’re focused on creating opportunity and helping working families achieve their dreams,” Hoffman said. “If we want the Metro East to thrive, we must continue to invest in its people. MAP Grants are a great avenue to do so.”
