Scherer Brings New Funding To Decatur to Improve Scovill Park

DECATUR, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is applauding improvements to the western trail at Scovill Park funded by $200,000 in grants from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).

“Our parks are one of our community’s best renewable resources, and they need to be renewed from time to time to make sure that they’re in the best shape for everyone who utilizes them,” said Scherer. “These improvements will make the trail more accessible, safer and better for all who use it.”

Scherer welcomed improvements to Scovill Park are just one of 19 IDNR trail projects that received funding. Towns and cities across Illinois received state money to make improvements to existing amenities or acquire new ones. With its $200,00 grant, the Decatur Park District hopes to add more parking space, construct rest rooms, improve the condition of the trail and create educational programs for those who wish to learn more about Illinois’ great outdoors.

“I am proud to represent our community in Springfield and continue to bring back resources for its betterment, this is just the latest of those efforts,” said Scherer. “I am excited to see this project start and see the many improvements that it will bring to parkgoers.”
