Humane Society Awards Rep. Lisa Hernandez Perfect Score

CICERO, Ill. – Committed to making Illinois a more humane place and advancing compassionate treatment legislation, state Rep. Elizabeth ‘Lisa’ Hernandez, D-Cicero, received a 100% on the 2023 Humane Society Scorecard. 

“In Illinois, we care about our animals and work with stakeholders like the Humane Society to eliminate abusive practices, encourage adoption and be advocates for these innocent creatures,” Hernandez said. “I am proud and honored to have received this perfect score, and I will continue to work with the Humane Society and dedicated advocates on future legislative priorities.” 

The 2023 Humane Society Scorecard tracks the voting records for state legislators on critical issues facing animal welfare including ending abusive treatments and supporting caregivers and centers for animals. This year’s scorecard tracked six pieces of legislation during the spring session: 

1. Senate Bill 1882 (Banning the abusive practice of toxicity testing on dogs and cats)
2. Senate Bill 1883 (Prohibiting contact by nonprofessionals with bears and primates)
3. Senate Bill 1230 (Dog dealer regulatory reform)
4. House Bill 1049 (Prohibiting insurance discrimination based on dog breed)
5. House Bill 3236 (Abolishing financing by lenders for purchasing companion animals)
6. House Bill 1533 (Banning cat declawing or tendonectomy without a medical reason)

Hernandez was critical in passing all six bills.
