Manley Continues Efforts to Protect Seniors, Hosts a Senior Fraud Seminar

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – In order to ensure that seniors have the information they need to keep themselves safe, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is hosting a Senior Fraud Seminar with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

“As technology continues to become more and more advanced, so too do the schemes and scams that fraudsters use to target seniors,” said Manley. “Education is the most important piece of making sure that residents can spot these scams and avoid them. I highly recommend older adults attend my seminar and learn about tips and tricks to help keep them safe online.”

At her Senior Fraud Seminar, Manley will be hosting a speaker from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office who will present information about the latest scams targeting seniors and how to spot them. The seminar will take place on Thursday, Nov. 2 at the Bolingbrook Community Center, located at 201 Canterbury Ln. in Bolingbrook from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Manley has worked to protect seniors from those looking to take advantage of them since entering the General Assembly. She has worked on legislation banning telephonic solicitation that targets seniors, ensuring that older adults are protected from aggressive and predatory sales tactics. Manley also regularly hosts Shred Day events to give seniors the opportunity to securely get rid of their documents containing sensitive information, preventing potential identity theft.

“Scammer are ever-evolving, always looking to find new ways to prey on vulnerable residents and take their hard-earned money or valuable information,” said Manley. “No one, especially seniors on fixed incomes, should have to deal with financial issues that fraud can create, and I will continue to work to ensure that as few Illinoisians as possible get caught up in these scams.”
