Scherer Highlights Data and Technology Workforce Development Program Pilot

DECATUR, Ill. – In an effort to help local residents to pursue in-demand training for a career in technology, computer and data science, state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is encouraging interested individuals to apply to the state’s new workforce pipeline program.

“The state is making a concerted effort to educate the technology and data workers it needs to deliver the government that the people demand,” said Scherer. “Instead of trying to compete with the private sector, the state is making the bold decision to organically grow its own workforce.”

The Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) is launching a first of its kind paid tech trainee program in partnership with Harold Washington College and Lincoln Land Community College. Participants will receive education, work experience and a salary of at least $54,000. The first cohort will consist of 20 individuals. Lincoln Land Community College will host an informational session and recruitment event on Tuesday, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kreher Building.
