ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – In order to give back to older adults and celebrate their contributions to the community, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is hosting a Grandparents Day Event where seniors can take part in a variety of activities, access community services, and meet with local leaders and express their thoughts and concerns on state and local issues that are important to them.

“The last few years have been tough on seniors, which is why it’s more important than ever that we are doing our part to give back and ensure that older adults know that they are a valued and respected part of our community,” said Manley. “Whether it’s learning about the resources available to them or just relaxing and having fun, my Grandparents Day Event is sure to have something for everyone.”

Manley is partnering with Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, state Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel, and state Rep. Dee Avelar to host a Grandparents Day Event. The event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Romeoville Athletic and Event Center, located at 55 Phelps Ave. in Romeoville. Attendees will be able to participate in bingo and mahjong, as well as speak to representatives from the Village of Romeoville and Senior Services of Will County about the programs they offer to help seniors.

This year, Manley made it her priority to help secure additional resources for seniors and grandparents. She passed legislation creating the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Pilot Program, which will connect Will County grandparents with essential resources that the state offers to help raise their grandchildren. She also supported bills that crack down on prescription drug manufacturers and distributors who price gouge medications.

“Seniors face a number of unique challenges, and it is critical that we are doing everything in our power to give them the comfortable, dignified lives they deserve,” said Manley. “Whether it’s through events such as Grandparents Day or legislation, I look forward to continuing to work with seniors in our community to advocate for their needs.”
