Mah Votes to Fund Vital Services at Risk of Being Cut

Chicago, Ill. – State Rep. Theresa Mah, D-Chicago, in an effort to protect social services that are at risk of being cut, voted in support of a Lifeline Budget that recently passed the House.

“This is by no means the answer to all the state’s problems,” said Mah. “If Governor Rauner would do his job and propose a balanced budget then these measures wouldn’t be necessary at all.”

The Lifeline Budget uses funds designated for higher education and social services that are unused at this time. These funds will go to ensure services like Meals on Wheels, resources for domestic violence victims, cervical and breast cancer screenings, can all still function. Mah understands this is not a substitute for a full balanced budget, but sees it as a means to an end until the Governor does his job and proposes a balanced budget.

“We must continue to do what we can to offer these very important services,” said Mah. “This Lifeline budget will help keep the lights on, until a full comprehensive budget can be agreed on.”
