Ford Encourages Residents to Give Blood, Help those in Need

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, took a moment Thursday during a busy session week in Springfield to make a blood donation and is encouraging residents back home to do the same.

“A single donation can save three lives,” Ford said. “But supply does not always meet demand. If you’re able and willing, a blood donation can go a long way helping our neighbors in need.”

In Chicago, residents can search for a blood donation appointment near them through the Red Cross at https://www.redcross.org/give-blood.html. According to the Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood or platelets. Donations are used for a variety of needs, including help with cancer treatment, sickle cell disease and emergency room care. The blood type most often requested by hospitals is Type O.
