SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Hospice facilities across Illinois will be able to expand the amount of beds and care they provide thanks to a bill passed by state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet.
“Quality end-of-life care is incredibly important and personal, so it is essential that hospice facilities are able to provide exceptional care to those who need it,” Manley said. “This bill addresses the growing demand for hospice care in Illinois so that hospice centers can treat their patients with the dignity and compassion they deserve.”
House Bill 1117 increases the number of beds hospice residences can provide from 20 to 24 and increases the number of hospice residences to 16 per county. These increases will help ensure Illinois is able to meet the growing demand for hospice care. House Bill 1117 is one of many steps Manley has taken to support hospice care in Will County and across the state. In 2022, Manley secured more than $250,000 in funding for Lightways Hospice Care in Joliet. The expansion of care offered by House Bill 1117 will help Lightways to continue to treat a growing number of adults that request hospice care and also provide a place for pediatric hospice care.
“Lightways continues to wholeheartedly support members of our community and their loved ones during their final hours, and I am proud to support their work,” Manley said. “I have always been an advocate for accessible, high-quality health care at all stages of a person’s life, and I will continue to work to bring these services to our community.”
House Bill 1117 passed the Illinois House of Representatives with no opposition, and now heads to the Senate for consideration.
