SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Will Davis, D-Homewood, successfully passed out of committee legislation that will require the state to establish the process to find partners in the construction of a new south suburban airport in Peotone.

“In spite of being legally approved for development for more than a decade, we have not seen enough progress in its development,” said Davis. “This legislation will require the state to finally fulfill its promise to deliver an airport to our region.”

Davis’ House Bill 2531, which requires the state to develop a prequalification process for firms seeking contracts related to the airport’s construction, advanced out of the State Government Administration to be heard on the House floor with bipartisan support. The South Suburban Airport Act, which became law over a decade ago, established that the state may develop a prequalification process. Since its enactment, no process has been established.

“The airport’s development has languished for far too long. The positive impact of the airport on the state is clear, but it demands action if we are to see it realized,” said Davis. “I will continue to- work to advance the south suburban airport development forward while working with my colleagues to gain additional bipartisan support.”
