SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is highlighting the creation of a new park in Decatur that was funded through the state’s Department of Natural Resources’ (IDNR) Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant program.
“Investing in their future and making sure our kids have places to express themselves and grow is very important for their development and personal growth,” said Scherer. “I am always excited to bring results back to our communities and see the joy of the children as they take advantage of their new park.”
The Decatur Park District received an $800,000 OSLAD grant to build a new destination playground at Fairview Park. Destination playgrounds are more robust than their typical counterparts, and feature more services and options for play, making them a “destination” for parents and children who may live close by. The park will feature attractions and amenities for children of all ages and ability levels. The grant is a part of IDNR’s $60 million initiative to invest in parks across the state.Rep. Sue Scherer represents the cities of Springfield and Decatur.
