Scherer to Fight for Consumer and Veteran Rights, Education Funding on Important Committees

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, will continue her efforts to properly fund Central Illinois schools, to address the teacher shortage, and protect the rights of consumers and veterans as a member of several key committees.

“I am thrilled to help advance legislation that will uplift the families in central and downstate Illinois through these critical committees,” said Scherer. “Our veterans, who served our country with pride, deserve care and support to thrive in their communities. Schools, no matter their location, should be well-funded and staffed with the best professionals to prepare our children for the jobs of the future.

A former teacher, Scherer will serve on two top committees overseeing elementary and secondary education. Scherer will chair the Administration, Licensing and Charter Schools Committee, and serve on the Appropriations-Elementary & Secondary Education Committee. In the past four years, Scherer has worked to deliver more than $1 billion in new state funding for classroom education.

Scherer will also fight to ensure veterans receive the support they need as a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee. And as a member of the Consumer Protection Committee, Scherer plans to crack down on scams and bad practices developing strong protections for consumers across the state.

“These committees are filled with a diverse array of representatives with different experiences, who are ready to lead and create change,” said Scherer. “I look forward to working closely with my colleagues and stakeholders to craft policy that moves the state forward in the right direction.”
