GLENVIEW, Ill. – State Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz, D-Glenview, has consistently been a leader in the fights for public safety, human rights and higher education. Her recent committee appointments in the 103rd General Assembly reflect that commitment. Gong-Gershowitz was named to the House Higher Education, Immigration and Human Rights, Judiciary-Civil and Judiciary Criminal committees. She is the chairwoman of Judiciary-Civil, a position she previously held in the 102nd General Assembly.
“I have consistently fought against the rising tide of gun violence in our communities and plan to continue that fight in the 103rd General Assembly. Far too many families, including my own, have had to cope with the aftermath of gun-related death,” Gong-Gershowitz said. “Getting weapons of war and illegal handguns off our streets and out of the hands of would-be shooters must continue to remain at the forefront of our priorities.”
Gong-Gershowitz’s is an immigration and human rights lawyer, which uniquely prepares her to play a leadership role in crafting the future of Illinois.
“I spent my life fighting for human rights for all people – including the most vulnerable among us. I believe that every person deserves dignity, respect, and fairness,” said Gong-Gershowitz.
“We must work together to ensure that the ladders to success are more clearly available to all,” Gong-Gershowitz said. “Four-year universities, trade schools, vocation programs and community colleges each play in important role in our state’s educational and economic health. In an increasingly-competitive job market, higher learning is a vital tool for success – both for individuals and for our state as a whole.”
“I thank Speaker Welch for the chance to continue to help our state be a leader in the areas of higher education, public safety reform and human rights.”
