Rep. Nabeela Syed Set to Tackle Healthcare Affordability, Senior Assistance, Economic Opportunity on House Committees

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Nabeela Syed, D-Palatine, will have the opportunity to lead in expanding child care accessibility, promoting economic opportunity and cutting costs on healthcare in her new committee roles.

“I’m excited to bring my experience advocating for civic engagement and gender equality to bear backing vital change in the House of Representatives,” Syed said. “It’s past time people struggling to find employment get the opportunities they deserve. It’s past time overworked parents get the vital child care assistance they need. It’s past time we slash out-of-control prescription drug prices that have led to unnecessary suffering and preventable illnesses. I thank Speaker Welch for the opportunity to play a heightened role in bringing these changes to my community and to Illinois.”

On both the House Health and Human Services-Appropriations, and Prescription Drug Affordability and Accessibility committees, Syed will help ease the burdens of vital medical costs, especially for seniors and others on fixed incomes.

The House Child Care Accessibility and Early Childhood Education committee will provide Syed the opportunity to advocate for universal childcare and robust early childhood education programs.

In the House Cities and Villages, and Economic Opportunity and Equity committees, Syed will work on reforming the tax process on businesses hit hard by inflation while promoting jobs programs to get struggling Illinoisans back to work.

“People in our north suburban communities elected me to be their voice in the House of Representatives, and I’ll make sure they are heard,” Syed said. “Providing economic assistance for the senior community and promoting universal childcare, creating job opportunities and passing property tax relief; it’s a privilege to pursue these goals for our community and for myself.”
