GLENVIEW, Ill. – In recognition of her work fighting for civil justice for all Illinoisans, state Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz, D-Glenview, was recently selected to chair the House Judiciary-Civil Committee for the 103rd General Assembly. This is her second consecutive term leading that committee.

“I’d like to thank Speaker Welch for the honor of helping lead the movement to uphold equitable access to the civil justice system for all Illinoisans,” Gong-Gershowitz said. “A legal system that operates without prejudice or privilege is the bedrock of our democracy. Working to maintain that system is vital work I am proud to take part in.”

Gong-Gershowitz served as chair of the House Judiciary-Civil Committee in the previous General Assembly. The Judiciary-Civil committee works in concert with the Judiciary-Criminal committee to make laws governing Illinois’ court system.

“Nationally, we are seeing a rise in anti-immigrant sentiment, anti-LGBTQ sentiment and other biases that have no place in our society and especially in our court system,” Gong-Gershowitz said. “For Illinois to continue to be a beacon of human rights that rejects that bigotry, it’s vital that our courts continue to administer justice fairly. Under my tenure, the House Judicary-Civil Committee will uphold that fairness.”
