Lilly Introduces Legislation to Prohibit Bonuses from Being Paid With Tax Dollars

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –State Rep. Camille Lilly, D-Oak Park, has recently introduced legislation that will prohibit employee bonuses from being funded by taxpayer dollars.

“This is an initiative that seeks to bring accountability back to government by ensuring that tax dollars are spent appropriately,” Lilly said.  “This legislation will encourage good government and ensure that heads of state agencies are not receiving lavish bonuses at the expense of hard working families.”

Lilly introduced House Bill 4025, which creates the State Agency and Grantee Bonus Prohibition Act. This will prohibit any state agency from providing employee bonuses. At this time, there is no legislation in place that would prohibit state agencies from providing bonuses to employees of a state agency.

“This is common sense legislation that holds state government more accountable,” Lilly said.  “We must continue to cut wasteful and careless spending in Illinois. Prohibiting tax payer dollars for bonuses is one way in which we can accomplish this.”

Lilly represents the 78th District, which includes parts of Chicago, Oak Park, Elmwood Park, River Grove, Franklin Park, and Melrose Park.
