SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Camille Lilly, D-Chicago, issued the following statement Wednesday after being sworn in for a new term:

“As we start a new General Assembly, we can’t forget about our most vulnerable who are still dealing with the effects of the pandemic and need our help.

“It is not that long ago that our state was in a difficult financial position, and the services that cared for our most vulnerable were most at risk. Thankfully, in recent years responsible budget management – and the credit upgrades, debt elimination and other benefits that came with it – has put us in a position to better invest in our critical services.

“Additionally, we’re better positioned now to deal with the effects of the Dobbs decision. As extreme politicians in other states take reckless action to curb reproductive rights, it’s critical that Illinois stands strong as the Midwest’s leader in reproductive freedoms. I will continue to fully support efforts that reinforce our reproductive freedoms and health care system.

“It is a blessing to have the opportunity to serve as state representative, and I am thankful for those in the community who engage my office with their feedback. Together we can build a stronger state, and together we can have an effective General Assembly that helps families across our communities which will have a statewide impact.”
