NAPERVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, expressed gratitude for the Illinois State Police which recorded marked decreases in violent crime and homicides on Chicago-area expressways over the past year. With new funding, Yang Rohr expects this investment will further bring down violent crime and keep motorists safe.
“I’m thankful for the great work ISP is doing to lower expressway violent crimes and incidents,” Yang Rohr said. “My goal as state representative is to keep our community safe, and I am thankful for the officers at ISP for making motorists safer. I am confident that the recent money allocated to ISP will lower incidents on Illinois expressways and further improve public safety and peace of mind across our state.”
ISP awarded 968 officers with the Violent Crime Expressway Ribbon, recognizing the crime scene investigation efforts of officers from across the state for their commitment to keeping Chicago-area motorists safe.
In addition to record investment from the state’s recent budget, ISP was granted $1 million in grants to fund Firearm Owner Identification Card operations, ensuring firearms remain out of the hands of dangerous individuals.
The 2022 Illinois State Budget invested millions of dollars into public safety programs. Yang Rohr helped pass a $124 million investment to retain officers, fund crime solving technologies, and keep officers safe. She also supported HB 3863 which provides grants to state and local law enforcement agencies to hire and retain officers.
“These officers put their lives on the line everyday to make sure motorists and their families are safe,” Yang Rohr said. “They are more than deserving of the Expressway Ribbon and do much to further all our efforts to keep our community safe. I will continue to partner with law enforcement, community partners, and anyone who is willing to enhance public safety across the state.”
